why having a virtual assistant is a life saver as a neurodivergent business owner

Picture this - you have just finished a day of clients but there is a doom pile on your desk calling your name and you haven’t started it yet. By the time you finally get round to it, it’s 10pm, you’re feeling overwhelmed and frazzled and you’re quietly crying into your laptop. Sound familiar?

It doesn’t have to be this way! Let’s talk about why having a virtual assistant is crucial as a neurodivergent business owner…

Externalize executive dysfunction
Neurodivergent people often struggle to prioritize tasks. Sometimes it can feel like you can’t get anything ticked off because you just don’t know where to start.

A virtual assistant can break down your tasks into smaller chunks so they are much easier to process and manage.

For example, I worked with a client last year who was amazing at writing and talking to her audience on socials but when it came to collating the information and putting together a plan, it was just overwhelming for her.

I swooped in and started a Trello board that we could both access, booked in an hour of virtual planning together and supported her socials going forward. It gave her the direction and focus she didn’t have before.

Create external structure
Neurodivergent people need structure. However structure can come in different ways and can be flexible to suit the way we work. A virtual assistant can put systems in place for you, give you nudges for tasks that take priority, create flexible deadlines with you and give you some accountability for the work that needs doing.

It can feel really helpful having a supportive person to bounce ideas off of so they don’t roll around in your mind without action. That to do list that’s just getting bigger and bigger by the day?

A virtual assistant can work with you to prioritize and even put together a schedule to follow. It’s like an assistant that totally has your back! Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Execute your ideas
We know neurodivergent business owners are full of amazing ideas. It’s just how your brain works. But, I bet you’ve had ideas floating about in your mind that have just never been actioned. This could be because it just feels too big a task and you don’t know where to start?

She knew what she wanted her inbox to look like, she had the ideas but no time and no headspace for it. I’ll give an example here - I worked with a client who opened her inbox everyday and saw over 10,000 emails sitting in there clogging everything up.

She asked me to carry out my inbox detox package where I work on your inbox for 5 hours, deleting spam, unsubscribing from newsletters and putting folder systems in place for old emails and categorising new emails with different rules.

Making this huge dent in her inbox, gave her some breathing space and a good foundation going forward. She felt relieved and in control again.

So there you have it, a virtual assistant can be a life saver for a neurodivergent brain. We support the way your brain works and in turn make your business more sustainable.
