5 real truths about being a business owner

I celebrated my year anniversary of ‘Kats the solution’ last month and while I am happy I've reached a year, I wanted to share some realness of being a business owner because it's not always sunshine and rainbows.

So in the interest of ‘keeping it real’, here are 5 things I wish I had known before I started my business…

1 - Building up your clientbase takes TIME. Time and patience. We are in a day and age of expecting everything instantly. The real truth of it is, you dont know when your next enquiry is coming. It could be tomorrow, it could be next month but you have to keep showing up and being consistent. If you dont tell everyone about your business at any opportunity, you're missing a trick!

2 - Some days you're going to feel like you're not cut out for this business malarkey. And that's okay. You need a break. Shut your laptop, go grab a tea, and maybe take a walk. Come back with a fresh head and start again.

3 - You will get ghosted and it's normally not personal. It's frustrating for sure. Plus it can happen at any moment. Even when you think the project is locked in. It's normally something out of your clients control and not a reflection on you.

4- People will try and squeeze every penny out of you. The clients looking for a bargain or a discount, in my experience, have been the pickiest. Honestly, it's not worth considering or jeopardising your mental health for. If those clients can't see the value you bring, they are not worth your time.

5- You will have really successful months and you will have really quiet months. You need contijency plans to support this.

What piece of advice would you give to yourself before you started your business?
